Despite the recent Xbox One announcement and its ever approaching release, the Xbox 360 still continues to perform well following numbers released by Microsoft. The Xbox 360 may be reaching the end of its shelf life, and that’s not surprising considering it was released in 2005, but that doesn’t mean the console isn’t still selling. Microsoft have announced that they have sold 1 million Xbox 360 units in the last 3 months, pushing lifetime sales up to an impressive 78.2 million.
Compared to the same time period last year the Xbox 360 has only dropped slightly, selling 1.1 million units for the same period in 2012. To put this in perspective the Playstation 3 has only managed to sell 77 million units since its release, giving the Xbox 360 a massive advantage of 1 million units. Seriously though, it really helps to show how close the console market is today.
That is of course until you include the Wii. The Nintendo console that everyone branded as the next “GameCube” has proven everyone wrong as it completely dominated this generation of home consoles. The Wii has sold almost 100 million units since its original launch, dominating both Sony and Microsoft.
So who’s your money on for the next-generation?
