Hottest Gaming News – Week Ending 08/04/13
It’s another week in gaming and although we’re still waiting for the release shower at the end of the summer drought there’s plenty of exciting news to keep us going. We’ve searched the World Wide Web for the very hottest gaming news this week and we’ve got some really exciting stuff to deliver. If you missed last weeks post we had some exciting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 news, as well as some awesome new screenshots for Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, Dead or Alive 5 and Grand Theft Auto V.
Asda Suspends Selling Of Wii U Consoles & Games
Asda, one of the leading supermarkets in the United Kingdom, recently announced that they have decided to suspend the stocking of Wii U games and consoles effective immediately. The announcement comes as a surprise as Asda previously slashed the Wii U’s console price twice, first from £250 down to £200 and then down to £150, the cheapest price available at the time. Asda is the second largest supermarket chain in the UK but even the companies biggest UK store, Minworth Asda in Birmingham, is not currently stocking the console.
Pikmin 3, one of the most anticipated Wii U titles of the year, is also missing from the shelves of Asda. However, the Wal-Mart owned supermarket is still selling the units on its digital platform, Asda Direct. It’s unclear whether or not they’ll restock following the launch of games later this year but for now, you’ll have to go elsewhere to grab your Wii U.
EVE Online Surpasses Previous Record With Massive 4000 Player Battle
EVE Online continues to be one of the most popular MMO games today and it’s not hard to see why. Two of the biggest alliances in EVE Online, TEST Alliance and CFC, partook in a battle of truly epic proportions. 4000 players to be exact. I don’t care what planet you’re fighting for, 4000 players in a single fight is impressive.
EVE Online doesn’t appeal to everyone and despite it’s massive popularity in certain circles, other gamers aren’t even aware of its existence. To put it into perspective a single player recently lost an in-game ship worth over $9000 following one of these large-scale battles. If breaking a record isn’t considered worthy of the hottest gaming news, I don’t know what is.
12 Brand New Grand Theft Auto V Screenshots
Grand Theft Auto V made last weeks hottest gaming news article and we’re expecting it to appear time and time again until its launch later this year. The latest from Rockstar includes 12 new, high quality screenshots that showcase a variety of the games features.
Check out some of the aerial travel options, various outfits and cosmetic items, and some of the awesome vehicles that will be debuting in Grand Theft Auto V.
Watch Dogs May Not Be What You’re Expecting
A new video has surfaced that has thrown Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Watch Dogs, under a dump truck; literally. The new video came about after a user posted it on YouTube with comments suggesting previous videos have been altered to appear more graphically appealing than the game actually is. Within minutes of the video being posted the ever reliable rumor mill began its rounds as thousands flocked to boards across the internet.
Some are saying it’s a mod of Grand Theft Auto IV, and not the actual game. While others are saying the footage could be from current generation consoles, or even the PC version on very low graphical settings. There’s been no official confirmation either way but check the video below and make your own judgements, it’s not pretty.
Monster Hunter Frontier G Confirmed For Playstation 3 & Wii U
Some exciting news out of Famitsu this week as the official confirmation leaked regarding a Playstation 3 and Wii U release for Monster Hunter Frontier G. The developers have confirmed that the Playstation 3 release will be hitting store shelves on November 20th while Nintendo fans will have to wait until December 11th for a Wii U release. It has taken almost a decade but Playstation fans will finally have the opportunity to sample the wonders of a Monster Hunter game.
Monster Hunter Frontier G may seem familiar to many of you as the game originally launched on Xbox 360 and PC systems across Japan earlier this year. There still isn’t any official confirmation of a Western release but seeing as digital downloads will be the primary source of distribution, the potential for localization is high.
Playstation 4 Demand Too High For The UK
Various UK retail outlets have confirmed that many Playstation fans may be left disappointed if they wait any longer to pre-order the Playstation 4. Various industry analysts have delivered the same verdict but this is the first time a company directly related to distribution has made such a claim.
Those that have already pre-ordered should be safe across the UK but retail outlets have warned pre-orders made after August 7th may not be fulfilled come release day. Sony declined to comment which has could mean this is simply a push for higher numbers by the retail stores, but are you willing to take that risk?
New Battlefront Game Release Window Announced
Anything Star Wars related is sure to cause a stir but not many as big as this. Earlier this week EA CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed that the brand new Battlefront game will be releasing in Summer of 2015, something stated during an EA investors meeting. The Battlefront franchise has spawned a colossally impressive fanbase that has spread across the decade.
Millions turned to the dark side after the death of LucasArts with many fans expecting that to be the death of Battlefront, but that’s not the case. Electronic Arts and Dice pounced on the project, aiming to revive the franchise with a brand new title simply dubbed, Battlefront.
Capcom Announce 13 New Games & Still Disappoint
Recent rumors have appeared to be true following a huge announcement from Capcom; detailing 13 brand new titles. You would imagine that any publisher announcing 13 games would be good news, but that’s not the case. The immediate response from most of the gaming community is disappointment.
The reason for the disappointment? Well, only 3 of the titles announced are actually planned for consoles. The rest of the revealed games were either listed as browser or mobile games, not exactly the genres appealing to the most hardcore of gamers today. You can check out the full release list below:

On September 10th fans will have the opportunity to buy the anthology that includes Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. All expansions and DLC’s are also included, accompanied by detailed maps for each of the games.
