Disney Buys LucasArts But Is Quickly Turned To The Dark Side
In October of last year Disney announced their purchase of LucasFilm and its subsidiary, LucasArts. LucasFilm is behind all of the Star Wars movies but George Lucas felt it was time to “pass Star Wars on to a new generation of film-makers.” Since then Disney have announced that a new Star Wars movie will be hitting the big screen in 2015, an announcement met with mixed reactions. But their recent announcement wasn’t met with mixed feelings, it was met with pure hatred.
Disney have officially closed LucasArts, fired all employees and cancelled all work on the previously announced games of Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault. There is still a small glimmer of hope for fans of either title as there is a possibility that Disney Interactive, or a third-party publisher, could pick up the titles. However, that is little more than hopeful rumor at this point.
Many Star Wars fans were a little disheartened to see Disney pickup the IP for Star Wars and now they’ve delivered a heavy blow to gaming fans as well. How do you feel about the choice to close LucasArts? Do you think Star Wars 1313 will ever see the light of day?
