Survival Horror Is Not Dead – Outlast Announced For Next Year
Founded in Montreal Red Barrels is an independent gaming studio that are focused on providing unforgettable single player experiences with their future titles. Their most recent announcement included details about their first PC title, the survival horror game, Outlast.
Set inside the Mount Massive Asylum in the Colorado Mountains, players take on the role of independent journalist Miles Upshur as he breaks into the asylum with the hopes of learning the dark secrets that lie within. The story takes a Resident Evil approach as the transnational Murkoff Corporation have been conducting top-secret research in the old asylum, prompting conspiracies and intrigue throughout.
Despite the fact Red Barrels is a new independent studio it has doesn’t have a shortage of talent. Some of the staff consist of industry veterans that have worked on huge titles such as Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, and Uncharted.
“There are already a lot of great games out there about terrifying monsters that eat brains; we want Outlast’s to be scary because you’ll know the enemies you face still have them,” said Philippe Morin, co-founder of Red Barrels.
“Our team has a lot of previous experience creating big, blockbuster games,” said co-founder David Chateauneuf. “We’re all really excited to see what kind of fear-based emotional rollercoaster we can build on our own!”
Outlast will be coming to PC digital download in 2013 and after the lackluster launch of Resident Evil 6, survival fans will eat this one up.
