Jet Set Radio In The Palm Of Your Hand
Widely regarded as the game that introduced cell-shaded graphics to the console world, Jet Set Radio (AKA Jet Grind Radio) was a huge hit when it was released on the Dreamcast in June 2000. Developed by Smilebit and published by Sega, the game became famous for its slick game-play and unique artistic style. Over 12 years since the originals release, and 10 years after the Xbox sequel, SEGA have just announced the highly anticipated HD remake of Jet Set Radio, scheduled for release on Android devices and IoS, as well as consoles and PC digital download.
It’s announcements like this that really show how far the industry has come in such a short time. A title that was pushing the boundaries of the latest technology in 2000, will soon be available to play on handheld devices, including the same pioneering art style, fast-paced game-play and critically acclaimed soundtrack. A remake isn’t complete without a few new features. The new features include OpenFeint and Retina display support, probably not two features you would have linked to the game 10 years ago.
Another new feature, and my personal favorite addition to the Jet Set Radio world, the ability to use photographs from your phone as graffiti in the game. It’s very simple to change practically any image or picture to a photo file nowadays, so players can expect almost limitless possibilities, even being able to create logos or graffiti on programs like Paint and Photoshop.
Jet Set Radio will be released later this summer and will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, PlayStation Vita, IoS, Android and Windows PC.
